One Thousand Gifts

Today's Book Recommendation:

One Thousand Gifts
by Ann Voskamp

Ann chronicles her dare of listing 1,000 gifts
(which are thanksgivings to God)
and how it changed her life.

She is homeshcooling mother of six,
a Canadian farmer's wife,
with a childhood heartbreak that haunts her
as she starts her dare.

She is a gifted writer
and paints a word picture with every sentence.

So, I decided to start my own list.
Since my current journal is pretty new,
I started at the bottom of the last page with
number one working my way up and forward.

That day I recorded:

#1.  A warm fuzzy robe from the thrift store
#2.  An RV that feels like home
#3  A man that doesn't mind working

My goal is not really to get to 1,000,
but to be more thankful.

Doesn't the Word say,
"Do not be anxious about anything,
but in everything, by prayer and petition,
with thanksgiving,
present your requests to God."
(Philippians 4:6)

In fact,
"give thanks" is in the NIV 34 times
and
"thanksgiving" is there 25 times.

God must think it's important.

Today, my list includes:
a bear cave for winter hibernation
(a rent house)

bleach
rubber gloves
carpet and upholstry cleaner
orange floral couch
contact paper
open windows
view of bell towered church from my window
cottonwood puffs covering the grass like snow
washer and dryer
and my new favorite store,
Hardware Hank

So now I'm passing the dare on to you.
Will you take it up?
Will it change your life?

Let me know
and don't forget to read the book!

  1. I read the book "the first time" in March. Today my listed ended with #670 rabbit on my walk statue still thinking I can't see him.
This book will remain on my reading list. Her writing is so poetic I often read it outloud to enjoy. If you haven't subscribed to her blogs yet, you might enjoy them. The addresses are in the back of the book.
