North Dakota Here I Come

I am headed to Alexander, North Dakota to join my lonely hubby.  Ted has been working there for a couple of months while I have been going on my preplanned trips, tying up loose ends, and packing.  If I delay this trip any longer, I'll have to hire a moving van!  I just keep thinking of things I might need.  My original plans were to drive the 1300 miles in 3 days - which I was really dreading.  But our precious friends, Harold  and Janice Eoff,  who are always ready for a trip in their motor home, have volunteered to take me and my truck to the north land.  In the morning we'll load my loaded truck onto their trailer, make a nest in the RV, and  head out!  Miss Daisy never had it so good!

Come As A Child

"Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven."
Matthew 18:3-5

While in Guatemala a couple of weeks ago, we visited the  Gerizim School in Chimaltenango during their morning devotions,   This precious little girl worshipped God with total abandon.  As she wept before Him, I couldn't help but wonder what kind of home life she might have.  Does her daddy live with her?  Do they have enough food?  Is their house tiny?  Do they have clean water?  Is she treated well?  I believe she and the other young worshippers there are truly the greatest in the kingdom.

Another new experience - my concealed handgun permit has expired.  Ted & I did our original class togehter, but mine has expired before his.  Renewal involves a lot of paperwork, fingerprints, re-testing, and re-qualifying with a handgun.  Ted is in North Dakota so I had to find a gun and practice without him (something I've never done).  The gun kept jamming, so I changed clips, then ammo, then oiled it - with no better results.  The next step was to go to the safe and shop for another pistol.  I looked like I was trying on shoes - not this one - don't like these sights - this one is too heavy - doesn't fit my hand - where are the bullets for this one ----- until I found the right fit and went to practice again.  I passed the test with flying colors and scored very high on the range.  Whew!  And I did it all without my armor bearer!

Beginning in the Middle

This blog about the places I am passing through, is beginning as I unpack from one adventure and pack for the next.  I have just returned from Albuquerque, NM.  The official reason for the trip was to attend a conference with some girlfriends, but the side trips were icing on the cake.  We drove the Turquoise Trail and walked the streets of Madrid.  An artist there shared the process of staking a claim, mining her own turquoise, and turning it into beautiful jewelry.  She directed us to Mama Lisa's for a delicious, organic, gourmet lunch.  The next day we toured and volunteered at a homeless shelter, where the "guests" there were people just like us, but have lost health, jobs, savings and homes.  We met moms, dads, an oil field worker, a real estate appraiser, and a man whose heart attack at 35 ended his jetsetting corporate position.  They all have hopes of once again having a place to call their own. I am so ashamed of my petty whining.  As I pack away warm memories of last week-end, I am packing for a 10 day trip to Guatemala.
